چکیده

The concentration and viability of spores produced by four different strains of Clostridium chauvoei (C. feseri) grown in a modified medium for 18 days are described. The medium yielded enough viable spores for experimental work.

Large scale production of Blackleg vaccine by fermenter and enriched culture medium in Iran

In all biological systems growth is defined as increase of chemical compounds. Bacteria can achieve to balanced growth if they are growing in a medium, which are completely adapted to it. Clostridium chauvoei, (Clostridium feseri) is an anaerobic, spore forming, motile, and polymorph bacteria, which its size varies from 0.5-1 to 3-8 micron and could be observed as individual bacterium, diplo, a...

Sequencing and comparative analysis of flagellin genes fliA and fliB in bovine Clostridium chauvoei isolates

Background: Clostridium chauvoei is the etiological agent of blackleg as an endogenous infection in cattle.  Flagella have been known to play a critical role in the protective immunity of animals to clostridial infections. C.chauvoei has two copies of fliC gene, namely fliA and fliB. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was the determination and nucleotide sequence analysis of both copies of fliC ...

Effect of antiflagellar serum in the protection of mice against Clostridium chauvoei.

Specific antiflagellar serum of Clostridium chauvoei showed a powerful protective effect which prevented bacterial growth in the liver, but not in infected muscle, against intramuscular challenge with calcium chloride-activated spores in normal mice. No protective effect was observed in mice with polymorphonuclear leucocytes depleted by cyclophosphamide treatment. The antiflagellar serum had ap...

Detection and identification by PCR of Clostridium chauvoei in clinical isolates, bovine faeces and substrates from biogas plant

BACKGROUND Clostridium chauvoei causes blackleg, an acute disease associated with high mortality in ruminants. The apparent primary port of entry is oral, during grazing on pasture contaminated by spores. Cases of blackleg can occur year after year on contaminated pastures. A method to determine the prevalence of C. chauvoei spores on pasture would be useful. The standard method for C. chauvoei ...

Draft Genome Sequence of the Virulent Clostridium chauvoei Reference Strain JF4335

Clostridium chauvoei is the etiological agent of blackleg, a disease of cattle and sheep with high mortality rates, causing severe economic losses in livestock production. Here, we report the draft genome sequence of the virulent C. chauvoei strain JF4335 (2.8 Mbp and 28% G+C content) and the annotation of the genome.
